The Sixth Sense in Coeur d'Alene ID

Pain is known as the sixth special sense. Taste, hearing, sight, smell, balance, and recently added: PAIN. This sense is vital to human experiences and should be viewed as positive. Obviously, we want to know when the stove is hot or when we step on a nail. We wouldn’t have made it this far in life without knowing what is harmful to the body. In living tissue, skin, and visceral cells, there are receptors that monitor different variations of stimuli that aggravate and cause pain. Temperature, pressure, and chemical signals are transmitted to the brain by the lateral column in the dorsal horn of the spinal cord (test coming soon). When this signal hits the brain, we can then move away from the obnoxious stimuli and begin to recover. This is normal physiology stating that something is wrong.

When we begin to believe that this noxious stimulus is just “our time of the month” or the classic 1 per week headache, we often reach for what has been known to turn the pain signal off--think Ibuprofen, Excedrin, and other pharmaceuticals. Still the problem exists, and the brain has less information on the actual problem. We have accomplished nothing to steer the ship toward health pushing our conditions further into Disease. This leads to chronic conditions - a worldly pandemic. 80% of the population in the WORLD will eventually have some sort of “back pain.” This is not a deficiency in Ibuprofen, but something greater--and answers are required. Listen to the body and your sixth special sense. When pain does hit, allow your chiropractor the opportunity to steer the ship toward improving quality of life and fixing the problem at hand. Pain is your friend, not your enemy.
